The Christmas season is a time of numerous parties and festivities. Make your tables look beautiful with crafty place settings. Making your own decor helps you save money and enables you to customize items such as place cards for a more personal feel. Any time of the year is a good time to get started working on table decorations for your next Christmas gathering.
Christmas Tree Place Cards
To make Christmas tree place cards, cut off a thin round section from a tree branch and drill a small hole in the center. Place a sprig of greenery in the hole. If it doesn't stand up on its own fill the hole with hot glue, then insert the greenery. Cut a branch (such as black walnut) into thin rounds. Drill a hole in the center with a high-speed rotary drill and hold in place until the glue dries. Cut out a paper star and glue onto the top of the greenery sprig. Write names on the stars to use as placards.
Ribbon Wrapped Plate
Make your plates look like beautiful presents. Set out the plates, napkins on top of the plate and silverware tucked into the napkin. Tie a long piece of silk ribbon or wired ribbon around the plate. Tie into a bow so the bow sits on top of the plate.
Snowman Place Setting
To make miniature snowmen for your table paint a 3/4-inch wooden doll head and 1-inch wooden doll head white. Then paint a half-inch tall wooden flower pot black. Hot glue the doll heads together to make the snowman body and head. Then flip the flower pot upside down and glue on top of the snowman's head. Decorate the face and body with paint, fabric for a scarf and any other craft items you wish. Use it as decoration or paint a name on each snowman's hat to use as place cards.
Wrapping Paper Napkin Rings
To make fancy napkin rings that match all your linens and other decor, cut empty toilet paper or wrapping paper rolls into one and a half inch wide segments. Wrap the sections with actual wrapping paper to make festive napkin rings. Use different wrapping paper to create multiple sets to match each of your table setting choices.
