How to Make a Vanity Mirror for a Barbie Doll

How to Make a Vanity Mirror for a Barbie Doll

Making your own Barbie doll furniture and accessories is a fun craft and an inexpensive way of decorating your Barbie dolls house. One thing no Barbie doll home should do without is an ornate vanity mirror so that she can sit in front of it to comb her hair or get ready for her date with Ken. Making a vanity mirror is an easy project to do yourself.

Instructions

    1

Purchase a decorative small frame made for a wallet sized photograph. Many discount and dollar stores sell small plastic frames inexpensively. Look for something fancy, with sculpted curves and lines.

    2

Remove the frame from the cardboard backing and the clear photo protector, usually made of plastic or acetate on inexpensive frames.

    3

Decorate the frame further, if desired, by spray painting it gold, silver leafing it, gluing tiny pink flower buds on it or affixing lace trim around the edges with a hot glue gun. Use your imagination and choose decoration that will match the rest of your Barbie dolls furnishings.

    4

Cut a small piece of heavy duty aluminum foil that is uncreased and unwrinkled so that it is slightly larger than the photo backing. Place it on the frame backing, shiny-side up, and wrap it around the edges. Be careful to keep the front foil smooth and straight so that it will have that glassy reflective look.

    5

Replace the clear photo protector and the cardboard frame. The silver foil will show through the frame and look like a shiny mirror, and it will even cast a reflection of Barbie when she looks into it.

    6

Hang the vanity mirror on the dollhouse wall, or use the stand on the back of the frame to sit it upright on top of Barbies vanity table or dresser.
