How to Install a Changing Table

How to Install a Changing Table

If you want to free up some room in your nursery, you can install a wall-mounted changing table. A wall-mounted changing table is convenient and great for small spaces because it can fold down when its not being used. You can buy a kit with all of the hardware you need at the store, but you will also need to use the right tools to ensure that is installed correctly and that your baby will be safe.

Instructions

    1

Hover a stud finder over the section of the wall where you want to install the changing table. The stud finder will blink a light or make a noise when it hovers over a stud, depending on the model. You need to make sure the bracket is attached to a stud so that it will hold the weight of the table and the baby.

    2

Measure from the floor up the wall where you found the stud to about 4 feet. You can also judge how high to place the table by standing straight and marking how high your navel is, which is the approximate comfortable height for changing a baby. Place the bracket of the changing table on the wall at this height and mark through the screw holes with a pencil.

    3

Drill one of the wood screws that came with the changing table kit into the hole on the left of the bracket. Hold the other side up with one hand and place a bubble level on the table. When the bubble inside all three tubes are in between the center lines, the table is perfectly level. You may need someone to hold the table in place while you drill the rest of the screws into the bracket.

    4

Press down on the center of the table after you have installed it and wiggle slightly--babies usually don't stay still--to test the strength. Repeat this step every so often to make sure it is still stable and the screws haven't loosened.
