Ways to Fold Table Napkins

Ways to Fold Table Napkins

An elegant dinner depends as much on the setting as it does on the food. Artistically folded napkins can lend a touch of class to your table. Some folds are quite complex and require considerable practice to perfect while others are amazingly simple. Keep an iron and starch on hand when folding your napkins. Some folded napkins need a little help to stand up straight, and wrinkled napkins never look nice. Does this Spark an idea?

Napkin Pocket

This simple fold creates a classy pocket for holding silverware. With the napkin laid out flat in front of you, fold it in half towards you and then into quarters, with the open edges to the top and left. Crease the top layer back to the bottom right corner. Turn the napkin over and fold both sides in--the right side first, then the left on top of that. Crease all folds. Flip it back over. Your pocket is finished.

Stand-up Fan

Fold a flat napkin in half towards you. Accordian-pleat the napkin from right to left, making the folds about one inch wide. Leave 2 or 3 inches unfolded. Fold the napkin end to end, with the pleats to the outside. Tuck the unfolded corners into the first pleat. Open the napkin and fan out the folds.

Pyramid Fold

If your napkins are thin, starch and iron them before beginning this fold. Fold the napkin in half diagonally, and position so that the open point is facing up, away from you. Fold the right and left corners up to the center point, so that the edges meet in the middle creating a diamond shape. Turn the napkin over. Fold the top point down, creating a triangle with the open point facing down, towards you. Fold both sides under to create a pyramid. Stand the pyramid up and finger-press the creases until it stands on its own.
