How to Build a Bathroom Vanity From a Dresser

How to Build a Bathroom Vanity From a Dresser

Dressers bring an elegant and classic look to any bathroom vanity. Transforming a dresser into a bathroom vanity can be a simple task when you know what to do. This project requires removing the top of the dresser, adjusting drawers around plumbing, and fitting a new vanity countertop to the dresser. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Remove the top drawer from the vanity. Unscrew the face of the drawer from the drawer base, using a screwdriver. Attach the face of the drawer directly to the dresser base with wood glue and small screws (which do not extend through the drawer front) from the inside of the dresser. This may be difficult, so you may want to wait until the top of the dresser is removed.

    2

Unscrew the wood top from the top of the dresser. The screws are on the inside of the dresser. If the top does not unscrew, you may need to use a jigsaw to cut the top off the dresser.

    3

Rub white chalk on the bathroom sink plumbing in the wall. Have a partner carefully press the dresser against the plumbing. This will "mark" the dresser and allow you to see where the plumbing holes must be cut. Use a drill and hole saws of the right size to cut the holes for the plumbing.

    4

Install the sink and vanity top on the top of the dresser. Apply a small bead of caulk around the top to the dresser. Place the vanity top on top of the caulk. Allow the caulk to dry and install the sink and faucet. Follow the manufacturer's directions to install the sink and faucet.

    5

Hook up the sink to the plumbing in the wall.
