Marble is a popular stone used in remodeling projects. It is prized for its beauty; when working with marble, be particularly careful not to scuff or scratch the finished marble. Cutting a vanity top is a relatively quick job, but you must use tools designed for the job. Sawblades must be high-quality masonry blades and should be checked for sharpness before they're used. Dull blades can cause irreparable chip marks in the cut that make the marble less attractive. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Lay the marble vanity top on top of the workbench with the finished side down. Place it on a soft towel so the finish won't get damaged.
2Measure the piece that needs to be cut and mark it with a pencil. Mark the complete line and go over it a few times so that it is easily visible.
3Set the vanity top on the table saw. Keep the towel between the top and the table, but don't allow it to go underneath where the saw will cut. Clamp the vanity top to the table securely.
4Cut the vanity top with the table saw. Press down on the saw arm firmly, but don't force it to cut. If the saw begins to slow down, pull it out of the marble for a couple of seconds and then begin cutting again.
5Buff the cut edge with 60-grit sandpaper. Wipe the cut down with a wet rag to remove any dust and residue.
