How to Get Rid of Fingernail Polish on Furniture

Nail polish might look great on your fingernails, but it can leave ugly stains on furniture. A quick movement is all it takes to accidentally brush against your favorite chair or tip a bottle over onto the coffee table. Don't despair---you can remove nail polish from furniture by using common household supplies. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Upholstered Furniture

    1

Use a rag to apply pressure to the stain if the spill or smudge is fresh. Blot up as much as possible, but don't rub the area, which will smear the nail polish.

    2

Apply a few drops of non-oil based nail polish remover onto the stain with an eye dropper. Only use this method on upholstery because nail polish remover will strip the finish from wood.

    3

Blot off the nail polish remover with a clean, dry rag to remove polish from the fabric. Continue to apply nail polish remover and blot the affected area with a rag until the stain is gone.

    4

Squirt about a teaspoon of home dry cleaning product such as Dryel, Custom Cleaner or FreshCare onto a sponge, and apply it to the stained area if Steps 1 through 3 do not seem to be working. Blot the area dry with a dry rag. Repeat if necessary. As an alternative to the home dry cleaning product, apply a few drops of regular household hydrogen peroxide on the affected area and blot it out.

Wooden Furniture

    5

Use a clean, dry cloth to blot out the polish as soon as possible.

    6

Dip a piece of steel wool into a jar of common car wax. Use the finest grade of steel wool that you can find.

    7

Rub the stain gently with the steel wool, using light circular motions.

    8

Wipe the area with a clean, dry rag. Polish the wood using furniture polish.
