How to Make a Tablecloth for a TV Tray

How to Make a Tablecloth for a TV Tray

A television tray is a small fold-out tray that can be positioned on the lap or bed of a person who is experiencing mobility problems. This type of tray allows a person to eat in bed or sitting on a chair or couch. To dress up a television tray, you can make a nice tablecloth using a small amount of material. This will make the person using the tray feel special. Your finished tablecloth should be secure so that it will not slide off the tray. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Measure the length and width of the tray. Add twice the thickness of the tray plus 3 inches to each measurement. Cut the fabric to size.

    2

Place the fabric face side down on the ironing board. Fold the edges of the fabric to the back 1/2 inch and iron. Fold the fold to the back 1/2 inch and iron. This allows you to completely hide the raw edge of the fabric, similar to a double hem. Insert no-sew iron hemming tape between the fold and the back of the fabric. Remove the backer tape and iron the hem. Repeat this on the remaining three sides.

    3

Place the fabric face side down. Position the tray centered over the fabric. Fold the point of the corner toward the center of the tray and hold it in position with your finger. Fold one side of the fabric to the back 1 inch. Fold the adjacent side to the back 1 inch so that it overlaps the other side and both cover the corner fabric. Poke a hole through the two folded sides with an awl.

    4

Attach the top half of the snap with a snap tool so that it goes through the top folded side at the hole. The smooth side of the snap should face outward. Attach the bottom half of the snap facing upward through the bottom folded side at the hole. Repeat this for each corner. The snaps allow you to secure the cloth over the tray.
