Holiday Party for Six Table Setting Ideas

Holiday Party for Six Table Setting Ideas

When decorating a holiday table for six, you must be able to make the table look festive and cheerful without being too cluttered. With six place settings, it's easy for your table to quickly become crowded and over-the-top. However, decorating a holiday table for six can be easy, low budget and look very elegant if you follow a few simple guidelines. Does this Spark an idea?

Linens

Choosing linens for a holiday table is easy. If you are going for a more elegant look, you can use a white or off-white tablecloth with simple details, such as a band of gold or silver around the edge, or thin gold stripes running the length of the table. If you want a brighter holiday table, use a deep red or green tablecloth, or one with a bright holiday pattern. Remember to match your tablecloth with your napkins and other linens, meaning if you have a bright or patterned table covering, use neutral-colored napkins. If you want to use napkins for other seasonable table settings, invest in a nice set of neutral napkins and then use colored napkin rings or ribbons to add a holiday boost. Another idea is to keep all of your table linens simple and use a brightly colored table runner and centerpiece to add color.

Centerpieces

Around the holidays, you can find mini Christmas trees at most discount stores. They make great holiday table centerpieces. You can leave the trees bare, add mini decorations or lights, or even spray-paint the trees gold or silver. Surround the trees with mini packages, silver garlands or holiday glitter and confetti. You can also set round or square mirrors down the length of the table, and place gold or silver pillar candles in the center of each. Wrap a colored ribbon around each candle, and tie a sprig of mistletoe or pine to each candle. Surround the candle with pine cones painted gold or silver, glitter, confetti, a small Christmas wreath or small Christmas bulbs. Another easy centerpiece idea is to display an assortment of colored Christmas bulbs in a glass bowl or vase.

Table Settings

When it comes to setting a holiday table, it is important to work with what you have. Do you already own gold- or silver-rimmed dishes? Do you have white, off-white or neutral-colored dishes? You can use these as a base for your place setting, adding decorative elements for holiday flare. Using neutral-colored place settings also will add a simple touch that will keep the table from being overwhelming, especially if your linens are brightly colored. If you don't have neutral-colored dishes, consider purchasing some low cost dishes from discount stores such as Wal-Mart, Target or a dollar store. Often you can find plain clear, white, or off-white plates, bowls and glasses that you can use again to decorate other holiday tables.
